How to Kick Clutter to the Curb

How to Kick Clutter to the Curb
Plus, 4 Mottos to Keep Clutter in the Past

The first step to banishing clutter forever is figuring out where it came from in the first place. Once you find clutter’s point of origin, you can cut it off at its source.

So, where did the clutter in your home come from? Here are a few of the most common causes of clutter that could be affecting your home, and how to get rid of clutter forever!

The origins of clutter, and how to organize it!

Bills and paperwork: Set up a filing system or scan the documents to store digitally.

Piles of laundry: You probably should up the frequency of laundry day, or find a more effective way to hold laundry out of sight until laundry day.

Children’s artwork: Proudly display a few art pieces on the refrigerator, and then create a memory box for each child to store paintings, pictures, and crafts.

Coats, mittens, and hats: Store any that aren’t seasonally appropriate, and invest in a quality coat rack.

Old music and photographs: Consider storing these digitally.

Tools and hardware: Create a hanging peg-board in the garage to store these, or designate a shelf or cabinet to keep things in one place.

Electronic devices and chargers: Look into a device-charging station or console.

Here are some mottos to live by if you want to live a clutter-free life.

“I will not keep things just in case I might use them one day.”
If you haven’t used something in over a year, you should get rid of it.

“I will find a place for everything.”
Make a home for everything so that you can easily pick things up and put them where they go. If they don’t have a logical place in the room they are in, consider finding them a new home.

“I will put things away when I am done with them.”
This is a great motto that you can instill in children from a young age, and it will have a positive impact on the way they live their life.

“I will not buy something just because it is on sale.”
We’ve all been there. It’s such a great deal; you can’t possibly pass it up. Maybe one day you will need it… Set the item down and walk away slowly. Your “Donate” pile will thank me.
